Les Miserables

Sat Jul 22, 2006, 1:02 AM
Strange subject? Perhaps. But. Ooooh, but.

I just watched the concert version of the musical 'Les Miserables' - just the music - and I have fallen in love with it all over again. I have sitting here for the last HOUR downloading songs. WOAH. MY. GOD. I. LOVE. JAVERT. (and as I listen to a *cough*very specifically titled song*cough* OH MY GOD I cry. I cry SO MUCH. If you don't know what I'm talking about....! /weep)

I've vowed for the past year or so that I would read the complete, unabridged (i.e. 1200+ page) 'Les Miserables' by Victor Hugo. After watching the Liam Neeson / Geoffrey Rush movie, I desperately wanted a better insight on the character of Inspector Javert - because, woah my god, he is beautiful in the complex character aspect. (Before I made this vow, I started in on the abridged version, and made it to where we're first introduced to our beloved Inspector.)

See, you can only ge so much character development in a movie. Espeically with someone as complex as Javert. And here is where I get into the biggest argument with my friends: is Javer a 'bad guy,' or a 'good guy?'

I say he's a good guy to a fault. We're talking, he takes the law SO FAR, he's coming out THE OTHER END. We're not even talking a corrupted "My Own Version Of The Law," we're talking text-book readings. The law to him is absolute. Not in and of itself always a bad thing; when an inforcer goes as far a Javert does for it, however - and overy petty crimes - the lines start to blur. And though he is portrayed as the antagonist in the book/movie/musical, I *do not* believe him to be a contemporary 'bad guy.' (Comment added while listening to the musical song 'Stars') All he wants to do is save Valjean from the life that he believes is bad! It's...It's...OOh, I can't DESCRIBE!

....This rant probably meant nothing to anyone. If you don't like the idea of reading a 1200+ page book (or an 800+ page abridged version), at least watch the musical - the next closest thing to the book. Or, if that isn't possible, watch one of the MANY film reenactments (I would refer the one previously stated.) Get hooked - and see what I mean.

So.
1) I like Naruto. Not Naruto as a person or character. I like the show. Mainly, I like Gaara, Rock Lee (preferrably together), Maito Gai, and Hatake Kakashi (preferrably together).
This makes me a hypocrite.*
I'm strangely okay with that.

2) My roommate Ergo_the_God decided that if we were ever going to be Eternal Rivals, she would be Kakashi and I would be Gai.
I am, again, strangely okay with that.

3) Yes, I will get something up. I've been busy with school, and it looks like life is going to get one hell of a lot busier as the month progresses.

4) SHAMELESS PIMPING. Go to Ergo_the_God's page and read 'An Acolyte's Story' and 'The Paladin's Story.' It's...*ahem* a prosaic version of a current D&D game we are engaged in. I'm...uh. I'm Detrich. The Paladin. Woooo.

DONE! Kono-Taijo over 'un out.

* = I told a friend (in much the manner Gai-sensei makes claims) that I would never be caught watching something as mainstream as say, Naruto or Fullmetal Alchemist.
Pffft. My ability to keep pomises to myself sucks.

They call me...

KONO-TAIJO!
which means Captain Kono. Because you know it, baby - I'm the Captain.

This brings me to an interesting conversation that one Ergo-the-God and I had. The basic infomation went something like this:
I wondered why I hadn't seen any Final Fantasy VII!iPod themed LJ icons (such as a rather amusing Fullmetal Alchemist I've seen floating around). This in turn lead to a discussion that, if there was one, it would feature Vincent rocking out punk-style (i.e. headbanging) while listening to "What is Love?" I countered that Cloud would probably be standing around in a dress again...The conversation evolved past iPod to a simple Planet's Savior party scene, where the following things would be deplicted:
1) Vincent would still be rocking out punk-style,
2) Barret would be the obligitory black DJ,
3) Red XIII would be hiding under a table somewhere,
4) Yuffie, Tifa and Aeris would all be grinding (in the modern-day fashion of females) off in a corner,
5) Cloud would *still* be in a dress, looking confused,
6) Cait Sith would be drunk and sidling up to Red XIII, and finally
7) in the middle of it all, Cid Highwind would be pole dancing on Venus Gospel with his ribbon tied around his head.

Strange as it may sound, I was not the one to come up with that particular aspect of the scene.Because this sounds Unbelievably HOT.

Either way, this left both Ergo and myself wishing fervently for the ability to DRAW beyond stick figures.

Ah well. The best laid plans of mice and gamer girls.

Okay, just a quick update...
....
About updates.

Finally uploaded my first three MeticulaSticks comics. Yes, I know they're lopsided. Give me a *#&$ing break. I did it in pencil, then had to ink it. That doesn't work well with me - I've never had any skill at inking over things.
Soooo...yeah.

In a little while, I'll put up the next two parts of my Fanfic. w00t.

~*~
EDIT:
Thank you so very much, lychee_twist, for scanning the MSs for me. You rock my face off. (yes, that is a good thing.)

I doubt I spelled that right. But....whaddya gonna do.

So, I'll start with what I remember first:

1. Sakura Con Kicked. ASS. OMFG you can't BELIEVE how much ASS that thing KICKED. I just wish I had taken more pictures. All I can say? MALE! X-2 Yuna and MALE! X-2 Rikku. HAHAHAHAHAH! Except MALE! X-2 Yuna...*ahem* Well. The walls might have ears, but for those of you who know me, let's just say this: WHY is his name JOHN?! Oh, *CRY! TEAR!* For those of you who are interested in seeing what pictures I did manage to snap, please forgive a link, but I'm not currently in a position to actually upload them here, so....LINK~! I'm the Cid Highwind cosplayer, by the way...
Bought the following items:
2 Maes Hughes figureens - Fullmetal Alchemist
1 Maes Hughes keychain - Fullmetal Alchemist
1 Laminated wallposter...thingy (Al, Ed, Hughes, Mustand and Armstrong) - Fullmetal Alchemist
3 Pencil boards - Saiyuki (entire cast), One Piece (Usopp) and Slayers TRY (side one: Xelloss / Filia; side two: Gaav / Valgaav)
1 Yazoo keychain - Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
1 Wallscroll (Alexander Anderson / Alucard centric) - Hellsing
2 Doujinshi - One Piece (Zoro X Sanji), Gravitation (Suichi X thatoneguydon'tlookatmelikethatI'veneverseenit;it'sthatothermainguywiththeyellowhairIthink) Gifts for friends. Didn't find any of the ones I wanted. Saditude.

2. Megu and her little dearest found THE. PERFECT. housing for this upcoming Summer. It's like, (to borrow a term from lycee_twist and use it in a completely different context) whoa my god. Like, shweet. SHWEEEET.

3. Got a C+ in Japanese. Eh. Definitely not good, but not as bad as it could be, either. I'll do better this semester. w00t.

4. Went to Owajimaya. That place is flat dangerous to my wallet. Set myself a $30 dollar limit - managed to keep it. But didn't buy one manga. I was saditude. BUT! I did manage to keep myself from buying a completley useless, spolier-ific Japanese guide to Dirge of Cerberus. I was proud. Also now know where to find the Japanese Final Fantasy XI guides Hiem-san was talking about. Waha, life rules.

5. This will be my last one, since I have this...thing about numbers being divisible by 5.
Part the First: Rented "Fullmetal Alchemist and the Broken Angel" for PS 2. Am EXTREMELY GLAD I didn't buy it first. Game Sucks. Like, I'm pretty sure I'll have it beaten by tomorrow, and I've only put around...oh, 7.5 game hours into it. It's just like my Lupin III game - $50 dollars to beat it in 10 game hours. Yeah. It was sad.
Part the Second: Ever since I saw an AMV at Sakura Con that uses the English version of "Brothers" from FMA, it's been stuck in my head. RATHER ANNOYING. Especially since I still don't have all the words memorized. Look out, Megu - there's a new song on the playlist for the next 3 months...! (Hey. Don't give me that look. At least it isn't 'Melissa.')

Urm. Yeah? Will actually update...sometime.
Procrastinators unite...TOMORROW!
